Donald E. Hicks Memorial Award for U.S. Armed Forces Veterans

Pfc. Donald E. Hicks, a native of Superior, Wisconsin, fought in the South Pacific and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery at the age of 19. He and the 12 million other Americans who served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II are known as the Greatest Generation. Emerging from childhoods devastated by the Great Depression only to face the turmoil of world war, they put their young lives on hold to serve their country. After the war, Hicks and his high school sweetheart, Jane, married and resumed their lives, eventually settling in South Bend, Indiana. Together, they continued to set aside personal goals to ensure their three children might enjoy opportunities that had been denied to them by time and circumstance. We are mindful today that men and women veterans from other generations live among us in the UT Dallas community, and their stories of volunteer service and personal sacrifice are similar. This scholarship, a gesture of appreciation to them for their service, is open to any honorably discharged armed forces veteran who served on active duty and is enrolled at UT Dallas as a full-time degree-seeking student.

Charles and Christina Quinn Award

Charlie Quinn, EMBA’08, and Tina Quinn, BS’12, established the Charles and Christina Quinn Award for Naveen Jindal School of Management veterans in order to combine their love of the Army and their desire to give back. “Tina and I believe our education from the Jindal School greatly contributed to our current success, so we are honored to pass those same experiences on to someone who has given so much for our country,” said Charlie, the son of a retired Army sergeant major. He spent almost a decade in the U.S. Army in numerous combat command and staff positions, including as commander of two light-infantry companies that served as part of the Rapid Deployment Force. Tina’s brother, brother-in-law, and nephew all served in the armed forces in either infantry or special operations units. Charlie now serves as vice president of recruiting solutions at HumCap, and Tina is a Sr. Account Analyst, Client Analytics at Vixxo. For more information go to this link.
